Colour, Design, Trends – 2017, what’s happening

We all need to use some imagery in what we put out there to promote what we do, what we sell, what we provide. Using a resonant colour in that, not only for our logo but across the board, helps the whole process along. It adds its own message subtly.

Boost brands, influence behaviour and convince your clients.

This month the focus is on design elements. Many recent trends have involved user patterns, color or typography, but here it’s all about subtle techniques. Essential trends to take note of include downpage navigation, boxes as a design element and plenty of vertical lines and movement. Here’s what’s trending in design this month: 1. Downpage Navigation Designers seem to be in quite the experimental phase when it comes to navigation these days. From vertical, side navigation options to pop-out styles to downpage styles, menu items are kind of all over the place. While downpage navigation used to be a distinct no-no, it can grow on you. And as more designers opt for this user pattern, it will become more generally accepted. Here’s a word of caution: If you opt for downpage navigation, keep a close eye on website analytics to ensure that your visitors understand the pattern and are continuing to click. This technique might not work for all audiences. So how do you make it work? The best

Having more than just text in what you put out there is a must. You must also tell your story in a good way, preferably with a little imagination. Yes we can help with such:

Adding the right taglines to the right image is something that takes a little practice. We do our best.

The colour scheme is one thing, the tagline (or endline) another, then there is the layout of the image itself, what is pictured completes the whole. Getting everything balanced can be a bit of a job – we get thee in the end, especially given a little nudge here and there and an idea or two from others.

Trends we’re noticing: muted colors, authenticity, and symmetry.

Use Stunning Stock Images, or at least – Expressive Ones

It is always best to use images in your posts – blog, social media and website – even your print work could use some imagery. It is not just the case that images, whether photo or vector, help to attract, they also add an explanatory power going beyond just an echoing of your message. They help to add emotion, a background or texture to all that is being said. It may be a moment of contrast or of extension of the message as a whole. The style of the image makes a point. There is also a point to the major colours involved. Colour has an emotional point to it, it relates in particular ways, adding feeling or the direction towards certain feelings. The style of the image places you and your argument as well as elements of the story in toto.Whether you want free stock images for your website, blog or social media posts, this guide will help you to find the best images to use.

If you need help with all of this – we are here! A big part of what we offer are precisely images created or chosen to suit combined with the right taglines for you and your purposes.

Ask yourself these questions to begin with:

  • where do you place yourself in the market, what king of business are you?
  • who is it that you are hoping to reach?
  • what sort of image will they react best to?
  • what will spark their interest and keep them looking and reading?
  • what feelings do you want to generate?

Summer Marketing and Design Bundles

As the seasons change our sensibilities change, our moods alter, what we look for moves on. So the question is – should our branding and marketing change as well, along with the design and copy that goes with it? Personally I would say yes! While we may hope for warmth and sun in winter, in summer we look for ways to enjoy it perhaps, sometimes we look to escape its harshness – come on! we have all managed a little sunburn here and there, haven’t we?

With the change in seasons we can put a different slant on things. We can set our products and services in this weather and all that it brings with it (apart from the snow shovelling services, of course!). Think about the emotions, wishes, wants and needs running through these days. Ask yourself how can you reflect your products and services in all that is going on – practically for people and in their minds, emotions and all the rest. You could perhaps refresh a number of things:

  • try a new print run, new business cards, flyers, brochures, leaflets
  • put out a new e-book catalogue, services handbook
  • re-style your social media channels with new banners, new ads and posts
  • try a new seasonal social media campaign
  • redesign your website, or at least give it one or two new features, designs, statements
  • give yourself a new logo, seasonal or not!

We can help with all of this, or at least give you a few ideas.

Social Media Marketing – duh!

We are all on it, we all need it – no matter how big or small, how young or old. We have to get it right to keep our presence. We can help you but here are a few ideas to help the thought processes.

First of all – decide the channels to use. As I have said elsewhere you don’t find too many retirees using Instagram at midnight. Also you don’t find too many millenials or younger running through facebook groups and pages at ten of a morning or earlier.

Secondly, what catches the eye of someone in their 20s is slightly different to that of someone in their 60s. Your content needs to be right, its look, its wording, its setting and scene arrangement.

While social has a proven track record, some brands still aren’t convinced. If that’ you, here are 38 benefits of social media marketing you need to know.
