Every life, even the most small and ordinary has the capacity to use imagination, sight and thought coupled with a little invention. Out of this we all often soothe and salve the boredoms, pains, distress and irritation from that life. Here, in graphic art, illustration, text and poetry we take a small journey through all of this.

The illustrations were taken from scenes around where I live or using odd bits of food and other objects from my own everyday life. The ordinary, the distressed, the broken, the discarded can all be made into something else. Texture added by the imagination for the mind. It is not just a tactile thing. The eyes can have it as well as the fingertips.

I am currently working on volume 2 of this project. I will be publishing a taster as soon as possible.

Elements – the new e-zine – resources and inspiration – digital publishing

Here is the new ‘elements’ – the e-zine – I have decided to give it a slightly new form. Rather than compartmentalizing each edition, I will now combine various strands upon which I am working at any one time and try to throw in a few notes here and there. Please subscribe to it and the other channels mentioned – it is useful for me. There will continue to be a number of resources advertised in its pages where they are available and relevant.

I really enjoy digital publishing. I have had a modicum of a background in traditional publishing, having worked on local and niche publications in the past. As you will have noticed I do enjoy the graphic and the visual. I am not a trained graphic designer, nor a particularly experienced artist or illustrator. I am slightly more than a hobbyist but certainly not a thorough professional. I like to delight my own eyes and hope that I can do the same for others.

There is nothing worse for any business, small or large, than your marketing and branding presenting a hodhe podge of wildly different campaigns, styles and apporaches. Your image works best if it is solidly within the same vein across all channels. If your print says one thing, your website another, your digital publishing something else, your clients, customers and targets will take you for a disorganised mess, without any clear message. Make it clear who and what you are! The first major thing to do is to have the design style of your of your output complement each other.
